Inka pen braves heat and cold, writes upside down
By Svetlana Guineva, Camera Staff Writer June 22, 2005
For anyone who needs to write upside down or in extreme heat or cold, the Inka Pen writes at any temperature or angle. The compact, lightweight pen was designed a year ago by Boulder-based Inka Corp. to help outdoor enthusiasts write when needed, under the harshest conditions. Made out of aerospace-grade materials, the all-weather pen has a pressurized ink cartridge and it can be used even underwater. Shannon Long, co-owner and buyer for Boulder Army Store, 1545 Pearl St., said that what he found appealing about the pen was its cartridge and the way it fits together. He said he also liked that the pen could be attached to a key chain or gear, and that it can be used at any altitude. "I'd love to have something like this," Long said. The pen, which carries a lifetime warranty, runs for $28.98 and also can be purchased off the company's Web site, www.writeanywhere.com/pen.html. Greg Adelman founded Inka Corp. in 2004 with the sole purpose to design and manufacture high-precision instrumentation to be used in extreme environments. "He's an engineer who came up with the idea while looking to create an underwater portable pen," said Megan Navarro, who is Adelman's assistant. She also added that Adelman used to develop optical research devices for Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Inka Pen was presented at the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market in Salt Lake City in January, and it has received positive reviews from various online travel and outdoor equipment magazines. |
